Midwest Chapter Kicks-off Plant Tour Schedule “Tour de SAMPE” with Visit to Renegade Materials Corporation
July 28, 2008 - The Midwest Chapter of SAMPE toured a new small business, Renegade Materials Corporation, which opened in January 2008. This tour is part of a series of plant tours known as “Tour de SAMPE” and showcases organizations in the region involved in materials development. Renegade Materials Corporation is focused on commercializing the next-generation of high-performance composite materials. The tour included laboratory and production areas for resin mixing, filming and prepreg operations.
Conveniently located in Springboro, Ohio (just south of Dayton), Renegade supplies composite prepregs, unidirectional tapes, adhesives and molding compounds for aerospace and industrial customers. Products include AFR-PE-4 and Non-MDA Polyimide prepregs for molded structures operating at service temperatures above 500F. The customized equipment available at Renegade enables production of materials with high quality control, and also the ability to produce both large batches for manufacturing composites and small batches for material development activities. State-of-the-art process controls and unique production machinery are utilized under an AS9100 and ISO-9001 quality control system. Renegade offers resin formulation, nano-tailoring and product development from laboratory scale through high-rate production of materials up to 64” wide.
The opening of Renegade Materials Corporation significantly expands the capabilities in the southern Ohio region for composite M&P development and manufacturing. This excellent tour resulted in the highest attendance for a “Tour de SAMPE” event within the last 3 years and was a great kick-off to the 2008 schedule.
Previous plant tours from the past few seasons have included Webcore, Technologies, Goodrich Corp., Dupont, Cincinnati Testing Laboratories, Applied Sciences, Inc., University of Dayton Research Institute, National Composite Center, GE – Aircraft Engines, Cornerstone Research Group, A&P Technology, and Maverick Corp.
